Young Teachers

Students learn with their teachers and masters for many years before they are allowed to teach others themselves. Two such former students, Solone and Tulate, were both out walking in the midst of a strong rain storm. They encountered each other and Solone greeted his friend.

"I hear you are now giving lessons in Zen to others, my friend."

"As are you. We have both accomplished much in our studies. I, myself, take my Zen with me wherever I go."

Solone smiled and replied, "It is raining and you are not wearing any footwear. You must have left them behind. I also see you are not carrying your umbrella. As it is raining today, I presume neither your hand nor your feet are participating in your Zen today."
