There were once two young boys, protege's, each studying under a different teacher. Every day the two boys passed one another as they went upon their way fulfilling the tasks they each had been assigned by their instructors. Eventually they began to stop and speak to each other and become friends. The one, whose name was Thrine, asked his friend, Channery, one day, "Where are you going?"
Channery replied, "I go wherever my feet may carry me." Thrine did not know how to respond this and, puzzled, returned to his teacher.
When he mentioned the conversation to his teacher, his teacher said, "When you see your friend tomorrow, ask him the same question. When he replies with the same response, ask him where will he go if he had no feet to carry him?"
The next day, the two young friends met again. Thrine again asked his friend where he was going. This time Channery replied, "I go where the wind takes me."
As before, Thrine did not know how to reply to this and he quickly left his friend and returned to his teacher. He told his teacher of the exchange and the new response. The teacher told him that he needed to respond, the next time, that what would he do if the wind did not blow?
The third day, when the youth met, Thrine was ready and he again asked his question. "Where are you going?"
Channery looked at his friend and said, "I am on my way to complete the tasks my teacher gave me to do, just as you are, and as we do every day."
