Two philosophers were talking. One of them was a famous man who had acquired a vast following. The other, his long time friend, was a man of little fame who could pass people on the street that had read his words and would still fail to recognize him. The first one, Professor Consume, told his friend he was leaving the university on sabbatical. His friend, Professor Light, asked him what he would do.
Professor Consume told him, "I will travel to as many places as I can find to study the philosophy of the Masters."
His friend replied, "Well, do not stop in any place where a master lives. Also if no master lives in a place you come to, pass on by quickly. It is not a place for you or your studies."
Pausing for a moment, but not allowing Professor Consume to speak yet, Professor Light continued, "If you do encounter another traveler, please do not provide them with any misdirection."
Professor Consume thought for a moment and then said, "Then perhaps I will just stay here and study the masters."
Now Professor Light smiled and replied, "Sweep up the leaves and branches. Quickly sweep up the leaves and branches."
