The Last Time

They sat together talking;
It would be the last time.
She mentioned future plans;
They'd never meet again.
She wanted to go to school;
It would be the last time
She spoke of her family;
They'd never meet again.
She wanted a new job;
It would be the last time.
And her plans to marry soon;
They'd never meet again
Though she heard the words,
It would be the last time.
It never dawned on her,
They'd never meet again.
