The Cup
Two acquaintances met, one older, one younger. They knew each other well and conversed, usually, freely. On this occasion, as they met, he offered her a drink. She agreed. and, when he brought the cups and pot in, he set them in front of her. Offering her a cup, he began to fill the cup. As it approached the top of the cup, he continued to pour. Soon the liquid overflowed the cup, yet he continued to pour. She yelled at him that he was intentionally spilling the beverage and overfilling the cup. He replied, simply, "Just as this cup is now full, so are you filled with beliefs and pre-conceptions. How are you to learn if you cannot empty your own cup?"
